Acquaintance with Justice Delivery Mechanisms: The internship enables students to learn about the various specialized areas within the justice delivery system, such as Tele-Law, Nyaya Bandhu, Legal Aid, Pro Bono Legal Services, e-Courts, and more. Interns are given opportunities to contribute to research and policy discussions, which help them better understand the functioning of these services.
  2. Hands-On Experience in Legal Research: One of the core aspects of the internship is training in legal research and referencing work. Interns are tasked with preparing reports and assisting in research related to ongoing projects and reforms. Duration, Timings, and Number of Interns

The LLB Internship Programme is typically structured to last one month (four weeks). Internships are offered in three slots during the summer programme for the 2024-2025 financial year:

The internship duration is designed to ensure that students get adequate exposure to the operations and projects of the Department of Justice. During this period, they are expected to work on research tasks, assist in document preparation, and engage in practical legal work related to justice delivery mechanisms.

The maximum number of interns in each monthly slot is limited to 10 candidates to ensure that each intern receives adequate guidance and attention from the officers of the department.

Placement and Attendance Requirements

Each selected intern is assigned to an officer at the level of Deputy Secretary, Director, Joint Secretary, or the Secretary in the Department of Justice. These officers are responsible for mentoring the interns and providing them with a comprehensive understanding of their responsibilities and the work being done within the department. The placement is subject to approval by the Competent Authority.

To successfully complete the internship, interns must maintain 90% attendance throughout the duration of the programme. This is a full-time internship, requiring interns to physically attend the department’s office during office hours. Benefits of the LLB Internship Programme

Interns who successfully complete the LLB Internship Programme will receive the following benefits:

  1. Honorarium: Upon successful completion of the internship, interns may be awarded a honorarium of ₹5,000. This payment acknowledges the intern’s efforts and contributions to the department during the internship period.
  2. Certificate of Internship: A Certificate of Internship will be provided to each intern who fulfills the attendance and performance requirements. This certificate serves as a recognition of the intern’s contribution to the Department of Justice and their experience gained during the internship.
  3. Exposure to Legal Work: The internship provides valuable exposure to the practical side of legal work, offering experience in legal research, drafting, and policy analysis. Eligibility Criteria

The internship is open to Indian students who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Academic Requirements:
    • Students who have completed the 2nd year of a three-year degree course and are about to enter the 3rd year, or
    • Students studying in the 3rd year of the three-year degree course, or
    • Students who have completed their 4th year and are about to enter the 5th year of a five-year law degree course, or
    • Students currently in the 5th year of a five-year degree course.
  2. Exclusions:
    • The internship is not an employment opportunity and does not guarantee future employment with the Department of Justice.
    • No TA/DA or remuneration other than the honorarium will be provided.
    • Candidates who have completed an internship with the Department of Justice in previous years will not be considered for the current internship programme.

Applicants must submit the following documents with their application:

  1. Aadhaar Card
  2. Passport-size photograph
  3. Marksheet/Passing Certificate for the relevant academic year
  4. Letter from the Supervisor/Head of Department confirming the student’s status at the institution
  5. No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the institution
  6. Proof of Identity (Aadhaar, Passport, etc.)
  7. Proof of Address
  8. Identity Card/Proof of Enrolment at the institution
  9. Bank Account Details (for the disbursement of the stipend)

Documents should be submitted in the appropriate formats (JPG, PNG, PDF), with the file name avoiding special characters. All files must be under 100 KB.
